Paul and Terri were married in 2006 and combined a passion for the outdoors and wine.
At the time, the UofM released a new grape called Marquette and the newlyweds used it as an opportunity to start a project together. After consulting with experts in the industry, they figured out that Pauls family farm was the ideal location for growing grapes… South facing slopes, near a large body of water and close proximity to the Horticulture Research Center (where all the UofM grapes are studied and developed). They decided to pursuit their dream of opening a winery together. In 2007 as they planted a small vineyard. A larger commercial vineyard and winery were soon to follow as Terri’s son, Ben, and Paul’s son, Isaac, got involved in the new family business.
Today, Terri is our fearless leader and has helped grow Sovereign Estate into one the most recognizable and respected brands in the Minnesota wine industry. She continues to a trailblazer and push the boundaries for Minnesota wine.
Paul, a retired physician, is the visionary at Sovereign Estate. You can often find him helping out on busy weekends, doing yard work around the estate or enjoying a glass of wine on the patio during a summer afternoon.
